Cannabinoid-Infused Limitless Cigars Details TPE 2022 Launch – halfwheel.com

Later this month, Unlimited Tobacco will become the second known company to offer a cannabinoid-infused premium cigar in the U.S.

The cigar is called Limitless, a new project from Patrick Potter of Tabac Trading Co., a California-based cigar company, and Alex Mateo, a co-founder of TreeHouse Biosciences and the current managing partner at a company called Snappy Penguin, which specializes in trademark work for cannabis and hemp companies. Mateo is also listed on numerous patents related to cannabinoids.

The pair met in early 2020 and quickly began working on a project to see what a cigar infused with cannabinoids could do. Many people have likely heard of one of two different cannabinoids by their acronyms: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD). These are two of what are believed to be at least 113 different cannabinoids found in marijuana, though they can also be found in other plants like hemp.

Unlimited Tobacco is launching with a 4 x 44 corona vitola it calls the Limitless Short Panatela that includes tobacco infused with a combined 170mg of cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabinol (CBN). CBG is actually the starting point for other cannabinoids, such as THC, which are converted from CBG during plant growth. The company claims that it developed a market test where 50 people were given a cigar with no infusion, while 100 people were given a cigar with the infusion mixture.

“In this test 50 placebo cigars were given and 50 responses of no effects felt were documented,” said the company in a press release. “The other 100 responded with the same astonishing results – all felt an affect some were more profound while others were less – but they all had a neurotropic experience.”

As for what those effects are, the company says “the effects of CBG are similar to hyperactivity psychotropic drugs like Adderall or Ritalin, but without any pharma or amphetamine like feeling. You feel pure focus, concentration and clarity. Whereas CBN is similar to a benzodiazepine like Xanax or Valium, the reduction of Anxiety on a body level without feeling slow, drugged or euphoric.”

Tobacco-wise, the cigar uses a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper over a Nicaraguan habano binder and Nicaraguan fillers. Unlimited Tobacco, LLC is responsible for applying the mixture in liquid form to both the binder and one filler component in whole leaf forms. Those are then sent to Guillermo Peña’s Las Villas Cigars factory in Nicaragua where the cigars are rolled.

The MSRP is set at $20 per cigar and it will come in boxes of five cigars. Limitless will debut at Tobacco Plus Expo (TPE 2022), which takes place Jan. 26-28 in Las Vegas. The company says the cigars will begin shipping to retailers once the trade show ends.

Potter and Mateo created TABACANN, LLC, which holds the intellectual property regarding the technology, which it lists as patent-pending. The pair are open to licensing the technology to other companies both in and outside of the cigar space.

Beyond the infusion process, Unlimited Tobacco, LLC is also responsible for the distribution of the Limitless cigars as well as other products, such as cannabinoid-infused Fronto leaf. Potter, Mateo, David Keith, Scott Blackwell and Todd Vance are principles in United Tobacco, LLC.

The company says it plans on selling them to any store that is in a place where CBD- or cannabinoid-infused products are allowed to be sold, including retailers who are not traditional cigar stores.

Dan Nero, who was described in an earlier press release as a co-founder, is no longer with the company. The most recent press release says, “Dan amicably withdrew his support with (a) promise not to compete.”
