The launch of the new product was announced on Friday through a statement from the company. The release is said to be pending verification of NSF certification for sport with undetectable amounts of THC.
CBD is being embraced by sports leagues
More and more sports leagues are interested in figuring out how to allow the use of CBD within their doping regimes. More than a year ago The National Football League began investigating the use of CBD productsfor chronic pain relief and in February 2022 the league announced a $1 million grant for research into the effects of CBD on pain management and neuroprotection.
A few months ago, the National Basketball Players Association announced this a partnership with former NBA star Al Harrington to launch a CBD productto sell at Walmart and Amazon. I Major League Baseball earlier this summer began allowing teams to sell CBD sponsorships, with the proviso that hemp brands are NSF certified for sport.
For its part, Charlotte’s Web said it was recently named the official CBD partner of the Angel City Football Club (ACFC), an expansion team of the National Women’s Soccer League that began play this year in Los Angeles . This is the company’s first partnership with a sports team. The Charlotte Web-owned CBDMEDIC brand has an established partnership with retired professional soccer player and World Cup hero Carli Lloyd.
“Focus, recovery and sleep are critical areas of optimization for athletes that our sports products can support,” said Jacques Tortoroli, CEO of Charlotte’s Web. “An NSF Certified for Sport line can assure sports leagues and their players that the ingredients are safe and certifies that there are no banned substances. We believe that our products, when they meet NSF certification, will have a positive impact on lives of professional and amateur athletes. and fans alike.”
The line will launch in late 2022 and next year
The company said, pending the completion of the NSF certification process involved, that the first products will be released by the end of the year. Charlotte’s Web noted that its manufacturing facilities are already NSF certified.
The NSF standard requires less than 9 mcg of THC per serving to be certified “THC-free.” This means the products will form a “broad spectrum” production process, rather than the “full spectrum” line that makes up most of Charlotte’s Web products to date.
According to the company, the new line will launch first with a tincture and a gum, followed by additional products launching in 2023.
