Former World No.1 Ashleigh Barty announces marriage

Ashleigh Barty had another whirlwind moment in 2022, when the recently retired champion announced her marriage to partner Garry Kissick.

Barty, the year-end world No. 1 for the past three seasons, posted a wedding photo alongside Kissick on Instagram on Saturday with the caption “Husband and Wife.”

The couple got engaged late last year and had already planned a wedding in 2022 even before Barty claimed this year’s first major at home at the 2022 Australian Open.

Barty won her third Grand Slam singles title in February, thrilling her countrymen by becoming the first Australian woman to lift the trophy since Chris O’Neil in 1978.

This turned out to be Barty’s last tournament, as she announced her retirement from professional tennis in March while still holding the top spot in the WTA singles rankings.

In less than half a year since then, Barty has been celebrated in her home country, receiving an Officer of the Order of Australia for her services to sports and youth development programs.

The following day, Barty participated in the eighth nationally televised Big Freeze, where she and other celebrities plunged down a water slide in costume to raise awareness and funds to fight motor neurone disease.

In one of their most recent adventures, Barty and Kissick, both exceptional golfers, attended the 150th Open Championship, the last major men’s golf event of the year, at the prestigious St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland earlier this month.
