Heat wave could be coming to CT this week, weather service says

Connecticut saw clear skies and high temperatures Sunday, and the National Weather Service predicted more for the rest of the week.

“The main story this week will be the heat”, a Sunday morning update from the NWS forecast office in Upton, NY read.

“High pressure builds up on Wednesday but weakens and we are under the influence of strong high pressure offshore,” the forecast said. “This allows a southwesterly flow and a warm moist air mass to come in.”

The heat will peak Thursday, with temperatures in the mid-90s to low to mid-100s in the region, the weather service said.

With dew points expected to be in the upper 60s and low 70s, conditions will look even warmer, the NWS said.

Temperatures were slightly cooler Sunday than Saturday, and the weather service predicted a slight chance of rain Monday night.

The heat is expected to increase as the week progresses, with highs in the 80s Monday and Tuesday with humid conditions and highs in the upper 80s.

Relief from the heat could come later in the week with the arrival of a cold front that will bring showers and thunderstorms as early as Thursday afternoon, the NWS said, though more likely later in the day.

“This could have an impact on high temperatures,” the weather service said.
