On last week\u2019s live stream Angelos explained,<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote is-style-solid-color\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cthis issue is personal to me because I received 55 years for $900 worth of cannabis. I was in prison watching state after state legalizes, and corporation after corporation enrich themselves serving out a life sentence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Angelos got out after a viral campaign led to his sentence being commuted by President Obama in 2016. In 2020, President Trump pardoned his felony charges, removing the often crippling burden that follows many incarcerated citizens after release. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-ralo-speaks-his-truth\">Ralo speaks his truth<\/h2>\n<p>Angelos says he did not have trouble convincing mega stars like Drake and Lil Baby to lend their autographs to Mission Green thanks to the reach of fellow rapper Ralo. Ralo joined the livestream from the Clayton County Detention Center in Georgia, where he is serving an eight-year sentence for nonviolent cannabis charges. <\/p>\n<p>Angelos explained, \u201cI think they\u2019re looking at (Ralo), while Drake is in the marijuana industry making money, (and Drake) doesn\u2019t understand why his friend has to go to prison for eight years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mission Green says that both immediate release (clemency) and record expungement (pardon) are crucial steps toward helping anyone reintegrate into society<\/p>\n<div id=\"jwppp-video-box-1780121\" class=\"jwppp-video-box\" data-video=\"1\">\n<p><span class=\"jwppp-instant\" data-video=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.com\/?jwp-instant-articles=1&amp;player=QKPVtt8Y&amp;mediaID=nEawyggo\" data-width=\"480\" data-height=\"270\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Loading the player&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI was a lucky one,\u201d says Angelos, \u201cbecause I had a lot of people pulling for me, and most people in prison don\u2019t have the support that I had. When I got out, I committed to using that network and the support that helped get me out to get other people out.\u201d If Biden does not grant mass pardons, individuals will be left to navigate the expungement process relying on their own dime and legal fluency.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-right\">\n<p>\u201cWe all see the injustices within the marijuana industry. A lot of people (are) getting life sentences for something that they sell in the store. Joe Biden, we appreciate him acknowledging this fact (during his campaign), but we\u2019re begging him to do something about it. We can cry about things, but we have to hold hands together and get things done.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>One of those individuals is Atlanta rapper Ralo, born Terrell Davis, whose promising career as a musician and entrepreneur was detoured by federal marijuana charges in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI luckily got a blessing and got introduced to the brother Weldon,\u201d explained Ralo via telephone during last week\u2019s livestream. \u201cHe gave knowledge about how to get things resolved. He called to action, and with his wealth of knowledge and his ethics, I was able to partner up with him and grab people like Drake and Killer Mike and a lot of my associates and friends that I became close to within the music industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter\u2019s signers are confident that Angelos is the leader to push Mission Green to succeed, thanks to his vast network and wealth of experience fighting unjust cannabis laws at the state level. <\/p>\n<p>Kazan calls Angelos \u201ca bridge builder\u201d because of his ability to get conservative political donor Charles Koch and Hip Hop legend Snoop Dogg on the same ZOOM call. \u201cHe\u2019s one of those rare folks who can do that,\u201d Kazan explains.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.com\/news\/politics\/president-biden-isnt-too-busy-to-carry-out-the-cruelties-of-the-drug-war\" class=\"wp-block-leafly-blocks-leafly-single-inline-block leafly-inline-related-story\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"border border-deep-green-alt border-l-0 border-r-0 my-xl p-md font-bold\">\n<p>Related<\/p>\n<p>President Biden isn\u2019t \u2018too busy\u2019 to carry out the cruelties of the Drug War<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/a> <\/p>\n<h2>Rectifying harm with action<\/h2>\n<p>Glass House Brands kingpin Kyle Kazan believes it is his duty to throw his considerable influence behind the issue because of his participation in the War on Drugs as a police officer in the 90\u2019s, as well as his current prosperity as the head honcho of Glass House brands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m the chairman, CEO, and co-founder of a publicly traded company. And this quarter we\u2019re gonna close on 5.5 million sq. ft. of cultivation, on top of the 500,00 we already have \u2014 six million square feet. I\u2019m gonna be the head of the largest cultivation facility on the planet,\u201d Kazan said. \u201cMeanwhile, Ralo is living a nightmare.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-left\">\n<p>\u201cWe have been fighting for decades to reverse outdated, discriminatory, and plainly racist federal marijuana policy. Marijuana has been racialized and stigmatized in this country for far too long. We have seen substantial progress towards cannabis justice in states across the country. It\u2019s long overdue to take cannabis justice now to the federal level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><cite>Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-D)<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The retired cop continued, \u201cit is my penance to speak out until this injustice is over\u2026 I was involved in the War on Drugs for five years back in the 90\u2019s. I was out there hooking and booking, and after several years of playing the game I realized this is a really, really bad deal for everybody involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kazan says the President owes the same debt as him to the citizens who caught the bad end of his 1994 Crime Bill. \u201cHe is in the same position I am. He was part of that machine. Still part of it. The Crime Bill, where he was the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, we all know people, we have people in our families including me, that were addicts. He\u2019s got the same issue\u2026 How can he turn his back?\u2026 It\u2019s time. Every day is time.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Will Biden come through on cannabis? <\/h2>\n<p>President Biden\u2019s 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201031233716\/https:\/joebiden.com\/justice\/\">campaign website<\/a> promised that \u201cas president, he will decriminalize cannabis use and automatically expunge prior convictions,\u201d and \u201creschedule cannabis as a Schedule II drug so researchers can study its positive and negative impacts. But as we approach the midpoint of his first term, he is yet to make good on his statement that \u201cno one should be in jail because of cannabis use.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The politics surrounding the issue are not as cloudy as in past decades.
