Their recently filed cosponsorship memos have some differences, but they say a bipartisan deal can be worked out.<\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span>A new federally funded study found that states with legal recreational marijuana saw <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/lung-injuries-tied-to-contaminated-vapes-were-less-common-in-states-with-legal-marijuana-and-homegrow-study-finds\/\"><span>fewer cases of lung injuries<\/span><\/a><span> during a 2019 outbreak\u2014backing up legalization advocates\u2019 argument that access to regulated products protects consumer health.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>\u201cMarijuana policies may offer a means to reduce the scale of such outbreaks if they impede the market penetration of contaminated products or affect the types of marijuana products consumers use.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marijuanamoment.net\/nba-wont-randomly-drug-test-players-for-marijuana-for-another-season-league-announces\/\"><span>National Basketball Association<\/span><\/a><span> announced it is extending its policy of not drug testing players for marijuana for another season. The commissioner has suggested the move could become permanent because the league doesn\u2019t \u201cneed to act as Big Brother.\u201d<\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><b>\/ FEDERAL<\/b><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span>A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/10\/06\/us\/arizona-dea-shot-amtrak\/index.html\"><span>Drug Enforcement Administration<\/span><\/a><span> agent was killed in a shooting on an Amtrak train after a large amount of marijuana was found on board.<\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usda.gov\/media\/press-releases\/2021\/10\/06\/usda-announces-more-146m-investment-sustainable-agricultural\"><span>U.S. Department of Agriculture<\/span><\/a><span> is funding research on \u201cusing hemp as an aquaculture feed ingredient to address food safety concerns about consuming seafood raised with hemp feed additives.\u201d<\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSchumer\/status\/1445794850465632257\"><span>Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY)<\/span><\/a><span> tweeted, \u201cFor decades, Americans\u2014disproportionately Americans of color\u2014have been arrested &amp; jailed for carrying small amounts of marijuana. I\u2019m working with @SenBooker &amp; @RonWyden to pass our Cannabis Administration &amp; Opportunity Act to end federal prohibition.\u201d<\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BLeeForCongress\/status\/1445810844382679040\"><span>Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA)<\/span><\/a><span> tweeted, \u201cEnding mandatory jail time for nonviolent drug crimes is a huge step in the fight to keep Black and Brown folks out of jail cells. Kathy Hochul\u2019s (D) office deflected questions about when legal adult-use marijuana sales may begin. Separately, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/wben\/news\/local\/crystal-peoples-stokes-talks-marijuana-regulation-rollout\"><span>Assembly majority leader<\/span><\/a><span> said she is hopeful that people will be able to apply for recreational cannabis business licenses by March.<\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovSisolak\/status\/1445870202055364610\"><span>Nevada<\/span><\/a><span> Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) tweeted about a \u201cnew online payment feature for agent card applicants and licensees in Nevada\u2019s growing cannabis industry.\u201d<\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JaworskiForTX\/status\/1445793796181082116\"><span>Texas<\/span><\/a><span> Democratic attorney general candidate Joe Jaworski tweeted, \u201cTX is overdue for criminal &amp; social justice reform. As TXAG, I\u2019ll advocate to legalize cannabis &amp; end wasteful prosecutions, freeing our police &amp; prosecutors to fight real crime, &amp; creating criminal justice reform for Texans.
