She sits in front of her computer near a growing fiddle fig tree, with relics of her ancestral past and personal present behind her.<\/p>\n<p>Behind her are six frames, one which contains a vintage hot comb and another a vintage curling iron. All other frames seem to be time capsules \u2013 real and imagined \u2013 serving as glimpses of the joy, pain, and strength within the Black experience.<\/p>\n<p>The pieces on her wall are a direct reflection of what moves her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe state of blackness, be the joy or the terror, is the first thing I find inspiring \u2013 it\u2019s where my accountability lies. When I write, I feel most prone to write about these things. I\u2019m working to find balance because it\u2019s not always about writing everything that happens in the world. It\u2019s about figuring out where your voice is in the larger narrative. I find honor and commitment in this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mans\u2019 year has been an act of stabilizing the scales between life as an artist and businesswoman. <\/p>\n<p>She recently released her visual poem Cycles \u2013 an intimate expose\u2019 of the complexities she experienced from her romantic relationship\u2019s end. She\u2019s also been on an interview circuit promoting her most recent book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jasminemans.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Black Girl Call Home<\/a>, and taking her business \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyweedfromwomen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Buy Weed From Women<\/a> \u2013 to new heights.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tv\/CT49j5JF8R7\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to get so caught up in celebrating all of these really exciting moments and talking to brilliant people, where no one knows that there\u2019s a healing process happening through my work,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-a-rising-star-honoring-healing\">A rising star honoring healing<\/h2>\n<p>Mans is a lifelong artist. Raised in Newark, New Jersey, she gravitated toward words and performance. Through words, she expressed her feelings about racism, police violence, coming out, and honoring herself and others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlack women \u2013 Black queer women don\u2019t often see displays of love. We don\u2019t see queer women, black women navigating spaces that don\u2019t have trauma attached,\u201d Mans\u2019 said. \u201cI want more stories so that girls can have a model of what love looks like. <\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.com\/news\/lifestyle\/is-weed-gay-iconic-influence-in-america\" class=\"wp-block-leafly-blocks-leafly-single-inline-block leafly-inline-related-story\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"border border-deep-green-alt border-l-0 border-r-0 my-xl p-md font-bold\">\n<p>Related<\/p>\n<p>Is weed gay?: Iconic influence in America<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>When she was in college, Man\u2019s came out to her mother and received little to no support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were all of these moments when I felt both my parents were rejecting the identity I was stepping into,\u201d Mans recalled.&nbsp;\u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of pain on my journey. As a writer, my job \u2013 especially as a queer woman \u2013 is to talk about it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Using cannabis apparel to support women in weed <\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped\"><\/figure>\n<p>Cannabis has been a saving grace throughout Mans\u2019 evolution. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-right\">\n<p>\u201cI had so many ideas for Buy Weed From Women but couldn\u2019t execute. Now, this little thing that was in my head is transitioning and teaching me about what it means to run a business, grow, and honor women in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><cite>Jasmine Mans<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When she was younger, she used cannabis for the joy that would come from it. Yet, as her notoriety grew, she realized cannabis was easing the anxiety she felt from people knowing the intimate details of her story.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, Mans began touring with her poetry and opening for artists like Janelle Mon\u00e1e and getting invited to perform at places like the Kennedy Center and Sundance Film Festival. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI eventually realized I needed to create merchandise for my tours. One day, I stumbled upon the words \u2018Buy Weed From Women\u2019 and thought to myself; this is going to mean something to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her thought was validated after launching her line of apparel on her personal social media page. The positive reaction was resounding. \u201cAt that point, I thought to myself, what would it mean if my concept lived in another space and had its own home?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From there, she created a website and lined her boiler room closet with heavy-duty shelves to store her growing stock of shirts, jackets, and tote bags.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing Chelsea Handler and Gabrielle Union talking about Buy Weed From Women was further proof of the brand\u2019s success. \u201cI felt the energy of the company shifting. I felt my energy towards the company shifting. I thought to myself; no one runs an empire alone.
