The league stopped random testing in the 2020 bubble and have stuck with the decision ever since. The policy is expected to become a permanent part of the next <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/08\/29\/nbas-strong-relationship-with-its-players-could-prevent-collective-bargaining-issues.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">collective bargaining agreement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The current agreement between the Players Association (NBPA) and the NBA will expire after the 2023-2024 season. But cannabis could become a hot-button issue with both players and the league eligible to opt out after the 2022-2023 season. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.com\/brands\/viola\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Viola<\/a> owner and retired pro Al Harrington said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketballnews.com\/stories\/al-harrington-85-of-nba-players-smoke-weed-stars-to-speak-out-soon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">yesterday<\/a> that three active \u201ctop-20 stars\u201d told him they would be speaking out about cannabis later this year. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-past-generations-paid-the-price\">Past generations paid the price<\/h2>\n<p>Between drug tests, criminal charges and racist myths that weed stunts leadership and work ethic, many NBA legends had to keep their love for the plant on the low. He was one of the first pros to go on the record admitting he used before practice and games to deal with performance anxiety. <\/p>\n<p>He also joined Al Harrington as one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.com\/news\/strains-products\/former-nbaer-cliff-robinson-debuts-uncle-cliffy-pre-rolls-portland-wednesday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first players<\/a> with his own line of products.
