Chicago-based cannabis company Verano Holdings Corp.<\/a> announced a planned acquisition of Goodness Growth, which includes one of New York\u2019s 10 vertically-integrated medical marijuana licenses.<\/p>\n

Verano announced on Monday that it entered into an agreement valued at $413 million with Minneapolis-based Goodness Growth<\/a> \u2013 formerly known as Vireo Health. That expands Verano\u2019s footprint into New York, as the state establishes its legal adult-use cannabis market.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have always viewed New York as a strategic market to solidify our existing east coast presence, particularly ahead of the state\u2019s adult-use rollout,\u201d Verano CEO George Archos said.<\/p>\n

The deal is still subject to regulatory approvals in New York and other states.<\/p>\n

In addition to Goodness Growth\u2019s New York operations, the acquisition would bring Verano into the New Mexico cannabis market, and expand its operations in Minnesota, a statement by Verano said.<\/p>\n

If approved, the deal would hand Verano a New York cultivation license, four active medical dispensaries in New York City, White Plains, Albany and Johnson City \u2013 with four more planned in the state. It would also gain a delivery business serving the New York City in addition to Westchester, Rockland and Suffolk Counties.<\/p>\n

The acquisition deal isn\u2019t the only recent effort by Verano to expand into East Coast states that have legalized adult-use cannabis. In November, the company bought two medical dispensaries and a cultivation facility in Connecticut, which legalized adult-use cannabis last year.<\/p>\n

Verano currently operates in 15 states, according to Cannabiz Media. If regulators approve the Goodness Growth acquisition, that would expand its footprint to 17 states.<\/p>\n
