Welcome back to The Week in Weed, your Friday look at what’s
\nhappening in the world of legalized marijuana.<\/p>\n

The SAFE Act rises like the phoenix once again.  An Ohio
\ninitiative heads to the legislature.  Idaho legalizes
\nhemp.  Illinois has more licensing problems.  And
\nfinally, if you’re a woman who likes hemp drinks, Pepsi has a
\nnew product just for you.<\/p>\n

***BREAKING NEWS***<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves (R) signed<\/a> the medical marijuana bill into
\nlaw.<\/p>\n

SAFE ACT<\/h3>\n

You might call it Perlmutter’s last stand.  Rep. Ed
\nPerlmutter (D-CO) recently announced he will not run for
\nre-election this year.  The long-time advocate of banking
\nreforms that would allow cannabis businesses to use the federal
\nfinancial system has one more trick up his sleeve before heading
\nhome, though.  His plan is to attach<\/a> the SAFE Act to the America
\nCOMPETES Act of 2022.  The House Rules Committee began
\nconsideration of the bill this week \u2013 further bulletins as
\nevents warrant.<\/p>\n

OHIO<\/h3>\n

Most states pursue either the ballot initiative route or the
\nlegislative route to legalize marijuana.  Advocates in Ohio<\/a> are going down both roads.  The
\nCoalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol (CTRMLA) gathered
\nenough signatures to mandate that the legislature consider their
\nreform proposal.  If the measure fails, the group can gather
\nadditional signatures to put the matter on the 2022 ballot.<\/p>\n

IDAHO<\/h3>\n

Hemp is now legal in all 50 states!  Idaho<\/a> has started issuing licenses for
\nproducers and handlers; so far 8 have been granted.  It’s
\nbeen a long time coming, the state’s Farm Bureau began
\nadvocating for this 20 years ago, but the 2018 Farm Bill moved
\nthings along.<\/p>\n

ILLINOIS<\/h3>\n

It’s been a while since we’ve turned our gaze<\/a> to the Land of Lincoln and its many
\ncannabis licensing problems.  Turns out, the problems have not
\ngone away.  The latest issue? Craft marijuana licenses.<\/a>  The state Supreme Court turned
\ndown the state’s request to grant these licenses, meaning none
\nwill be issued until pending lawsuits are resolved.  Forty
\nlicenses that were granted last summer will be allowed to
\nproceed.<\/p>\n

AND FINALLY<\/h3>\n

If you’re a young female who’s not much interested in
\nenergy drinks, Pepsi has a new hemp-infused beverage<\/a> they’d like you to
\ntry.  Rockstar Unplugged comes in three flavors and launched
