\nNDIs place CBD future in doubt<\/a><\/h3>\n

The standoff between the dietary supplement industry and the FDA
\non the question of CBD continues, however the FDA’s rejection
\nof two new dietary ingredient (NDI) notifications for full-spectrum
\nhemp extracts from Charlotte’s Web and Irwin Naturals has led
\nto some frustration. “I think the objections to the NDI
\nnotifications are the clearest signal that we have to date that
\nCongress is going to have to solve this problem,” says Steve
\nMister, president and CEO of the Council for Responsible Nutrition. “It is abundantly clear from the objection letters that FDA is
\ngoing to kick this can down the road and wait for Congress.”
\nHowever, adds Klee Irwin, CEO of Irwin Naturals, failed NDI
\nnotifications are not necessarily negative. “Although we
\ndisagree with FDA’s response, in reflecting on the process we
\ndo continue to be of the mindset that interaction with FDA and
\nother regulatory agencies is a net positive activity, as the future
\nof the industry, including the sale of hemp-derived products, will
\nneed regulatory agencies and the committed members of the industry
\nto work together to make sure consumers are getting safe and
\neffective products.”

\nCuraleaf faces third suit over CBD drops containing high levels of
\nTHC<\/a><\/h3>\n

Another 
\ncomplaint<\/a> was filed in Ore. federal court against Curaleaf
\nover claims it failed to properly warn consumers that its CBD drops
\ncontained high levels of THC. Michael Lopez, Amy Cantu and Susan
\nLopez-Henri filed suit against the company, alleging they all
\npurchased and consumed “Select CBD Drops” in Ore., which
\nwere marked and labeled as containing CBD, but in reality,
\ncontained THC. The plaintiffs are claiming negligence on the part
\nof Curaleaf since it created “tainted” CBD drops, failed
\nto exercise quality control standards of its products and failed to
\ninclude warning labels in any of its advertisements. After
\ningesting the drops, one of the plaintiffs, who is 79 years old,
\nwas taken to an ER “out of concerns he was having a
\nstroke,” the complaint states. This is the third suit Curaleaf
\nhas faced in Ore. over its CBD drops within the last
\nmonth.

\nCalif. Gov. signs AB 45, allowing for smokable hemp, sale of
\nCBD-infused foods, drinks<\/a><\/h3>\n

Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a bill (
\nAB 45<\/a>) that stands to expand the state’s hemp industry by
\nlegalizing retail sales of a wide range of consumable products
\nderived from the plant. Until now, the lack of explicit regulations
\ninhibited the hemp market, stakeholders say. Adoption of the bill
\nmeans non-intoxicating CBD can be sold as dietary supplements and
\nas ingredients in food and beverages.

\nOre. regulator recommends lawmakers extend cannabis grow license
\npause until 2024<\/a><\/h3>\n

In 2019, Ore. lawmakers voted to halt issuing additional
\nrecreational marijuana licenses for two years, citing
\noverproduction that caused wholesale prices to fall sharply. The
\nstatutory moratorium put in place expires in 2022, and the Oregon
\nLiquor and Cannabis Commission is 
\nrecommending<\/a> lawmakers continue the moratorium until
\n2024.

\nGOP Pa. state senator will file bill to legalize marijuana<\/a><\/h3>\n

Sen. Mike Regan (R), who chairs a committee with jurisdiction
\nover law enforcement issues and is a former federal law enforcement
\nagent said he will be filing a bill to legalize marijuana in Pa.,
\nand he’s asking his colleagues to join him. He characterized
\nlegalization as “inevitable” and is circulating a
\ncosponsorship memo to build support for the forthcoming
\nmeasure.
