CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. \u2014 Taylor Leach scored a power-play goal late in the second period and Maine held on for a 2-1 win over Boston College on Friday in the quarterfinals of the women\u2019s Hockey East tournament.<\/p>\n

Leach blasted a shot from the point with 4:27 left in the second. Mira Seregely and Celine Tedenby assisted on the play.<\/p>\n

Alyssa Wruble\u2019s goal tied in at 1 with 2.1 seconds left in the first period for the the Black Bears (15-18-1). Jordan Mattison stopped 27 shots for Maine.<\/p>\n

Willow Corson scored at 13:43 of the first and Levy made 29 saves for the Eagles (19-14-1).<\/p>\n

WOMEN\u2019S BASKETBALL<\/strong><\/p>\n

(7) UCONN 93, ST. JOHN\u2019S 38:<\/strong> Paige Bueckers scored eight points in 12 minutes, returning from a left knee injury that kept her out for more than two months and helping UConn (21-5, 15-1 Big East) in a rout of St. John\u2019s (11-17, 7-11) in Hartford.<\/p>\n

The reigning national player of the year had not played since Dec. 5, when she suffered a tibial plateau fracture and torn meniscus in her left knee during the final seconds of the Huskies\u2019 win over Notre Dame.<\/p>\n

Bueckers didn\u2019t start this one, but checked in with 3:41 left in the first quarter to a standing ovation with the Huskies already leading 19-4.<\/p>\n

MEN\u2019S HOCKEY<\/strong><\/p>\n

PROVIDENCE 4, MAINE 2:<\/strong> The Friars (20-13-2, 11-11-1) scored two goals in the first period and beat the Black Bears (6-19-4, 4-15-2) in Providence, Rhode Island.<\/p>\n

Brett Berard and Riley Duran scored in the first period, and Parker Ford added a goal in the second to give Providence a 3-0 lead. Keenan Suthers scored in the second for Maine, before Chase Yoder scored in the third for the Friars. Matthew Fawcett added a third-period goal for Maine.<\/p>\n

Victor Ostman had 39 saves for Maine, while Jaxson Stauber had 11 saves for Providence.<\/p>\n

CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 4, BOWDOIN 1: <\/strong>Paul Capozzi had two goals as the 10th-seeded Camels (6-14-3) eliminated the seventh-seeded Polar Bears (8-10-4) in a NESCAC first-round tournament game at Brunswick.<\/p>\n

John Russo and Peter Scheschareg each added goals for Connecticut College.<\/p>\n

Joe Alexander scored midway through the third period to get Bowdoin on the board, with assists from Patrick Callahan and Chris Brown.<\/p>\n

SOFTBALL<\/strong><\/p>\n

GEORGE WASHINGTON 9, MAINE 1:<\/strong> Sierra Lange pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and had two hits with two RBI and three runs scored as the Colonials (3-6) defeated the Black Bears (1-5) in six innings in Lynchburg, Virginia.<\/p>\n

Kya Enos tripled and Gabby Papushka doubled for Maine.<\/p>\n

CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 8, MAINE 5:<\/strong> SeaEnna Satcher had three hits and four RBI and the Buccaneers (4-6) used a five-run sixth inning to pull away from the Black Bears (1-6) in Lynchburg, Virginia.<\/p>\n

Maine scored five runs in the third on a two-run double by Gabby Papushka, RBI doubles by Kya Enos and Keely Clark and a groundout.<\/p>\n

BASEBALL<\/strong><\/p>\n

PENN STATE 4, MAINE 3:<\/strong> CJ Pittaro scored from second on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth and the Nittany Lions (2-3) defeated the Black Bears (0-4) in Cary, North Carolina.<\/p>\n

Maine\u2019s Ryan Turenne hit an RBI single in the first and Joe Bramanti gave the Black Bears a 3-0 lead with a two-run homer in the fourth. Bramanti and Quinn McDaniel each had two hits.<\/p>\n

NCAA POLICIES<\/strong><\/p>\n

MARIJUANA:<\/strong> The NCAA has relaxed the amount of THC an athlete can have to trigger a positive test, and is recommending less-stringent penalties for athletes who do test positive for marijuana. The threshold-level change is effective immediately and is retroactive to drug tests take in the fall, the NCAA said Friday.<\/p>\n

The threshold levels for THC, which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, will go from 35 nanograms per milliliter to 150 nanograms per milliliter, which the NCAA says is in line with the World Anti-Doping Agency\u2019s levels.<\/p>\n

Marijuana is legal in some form \u2013 medical, recreational or both \u2013 in the majority of U.S. states<\/a>.<\/p>\n
