Members also discussed potential complications with existing zoning regulations for medical marijuana facilities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>Town Planner Jeffrey Cormier said the basis for regulation of retail marijuana production and sale will be a modification of the town\u2019s medical marijuana regulations, which have been in place since 2013. He said a draft will be presented at the commission\u2019s next meeting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"tncms-region-ads-fixed-big-ad-top-asset\" class=\"tncms-region-ads\">\n<div id=\"blox-ad-position-fixed-big-ad-top-asset1\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>\u201cThey can certainly tweak it and adjust it how they see fit with further workshops,\u201d Cormier said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>John Ryan, chair of the commission, said even if what they have isn\u2019t perfect, it will give the Planning and Zoning Commission something to fall back on when businesses approach them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>\u201cBy doing this, we\u2019re basically creating some ground work to protect us,\u201d Ryan said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>Cormier said that even though the state will begin granting licenses in October, companies are already reaching out to towns to begin the process of bringing their business in.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"tncms-region-ads-fixed-big-ad-middle-asset\" class=\"tncms-region-ads\">\n<div id=\"blox-ad-position-fixed-big-ad-middle-asset1\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>\u201cWe have received several calls from people who are trying to feel out the town,\u201d Cormier said, adding that many of them were companies located in Massachusetts looking to expand into Connecticut.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>Commission members agreed that retail marijuana production facilities should be relegated to the I-2 industrial district, where medical marijuana production facilities are allowed.
