Here\u2019s how it will work. &#8211; CT Insider"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thcinct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/cannabis-can-soon-be-delivered-to-connecticut-homes-heres-how-it-will-work-ct-insider.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Connecticut residents will eventually be able to get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctinsider.com\/cannabis\/\">cannabis<\/a> delivered to their homes under the state\u2019s new recreational-use law.<\/p>\n<p>Delivery will initially happen through retailers once stores open, which is expected to happen later this year, and then eventually from stand-alone delivery services.<\/p>\n<div id=\"paywall\">\n<p>Cities and towns, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctinsider.com\/news\/slideshow\/These-Connecticut-towns-are-banning-marijuana-224514.php\">which can set their own marijuana rules<\/a>, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctinsider.com\/news\/article\/Analysis-More-than-40-percent-of-Connecticut-16914378.php\">prohibiting retailers and manufacturers from operating within their borders<\/a>, cannot ban delivery.<\/p>\n<p>At least 12 states that have legalized recreational cannabis allow for home-delivered marijuana in some form, including two of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctinsider.com\/living\/article\/15-marijuana-dispensaries-along-the-Connecticut-16398231.php\">Connecticut\u2019s neighbors \u2014 Massachusetts<\/a> and New York. Operations in Massachusetts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/news\/2021\/07\/16\/marijuana-home-delivery-massachusetts\">began last July<\/a>. New York, like Connecticut, doesn\u2019t have any retail shops open yet.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- hearst\/article\/content\/zone.tpl --> <!-- hearst\/article\/content\/embed.tpl --> <\/p>\n<section class=\"article--content-embed automatched\" data-eid=\"item-98462\"> <!-- amp-exco-6a858a35-b8cb-4347-84a8-9f2884e9c8ae --> <\/section>\n<p><!-- e hearst\/article\/content\/embed.tpl --> <!-- e hearst\/article\/content\/zone.tpl --> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctinsider.com\/news\/article\/How-Connecticut-s-recreational-pot-licensing-16753646.php\">Connecticut\u2019s licensing program<\/a> creates two kinds of companies: Delivery services, which bring orders from cannabis establishments directly to consumers, qualifying medical marijuana patients and caregivers, and transporters, which transport cannabis between businesses, laboratories and research programs.<\/p>\n<p>Delivery to consumers can come from either a retailer, hybrid retailer, or micro-cultivator. For patients or caregivers, orders must come from a hybrid retailer or dispensary facility. Licensed delivery services cannot sell cannabis directly to a patient, caregiver or consumer.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- Missed: ad --> <\/p>\n<p>The law enables retailers, hybrid retailers, micro-cultivators and dispensary facilities to use their own employees to deliver cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>The initial lottery period for applications for delivery service licenses opened Feb. 17 and will open on March 24 for transporter applications.
