While they still only represent a small portion of cannabis sales, the rapid growth points to a new consumer trend.<\/p>\n<p>According to data compiled by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.headset.io\/industry-reports\/the-most-popular-cannabis-product-trends-in-the-us-canada?_hsmi=204289998&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_teAfwdZ6pQ7W0TsDulpqdLXAEKtkR8B-QAkBSRWocKcPMbSwzVaG17vanPFQYAx2uMzxuJ04UiJjSt8WKxZDtW6VDjQ&amp;#form\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Headset<\/a>, \u201c\u2026it seems that Sublingual strips are driving a significant portion of growth to the Tincture and Sublingual category in Canada, with very few distinct products supplying the majority of sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img width=\"1024\" height=\"677\" alt class=\"wp-image-198470 has-ll lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/thcinct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/sublinguals-are-taking-canadian-cannabis-by-storm.png,compress&amp;w=550 550w, https:\/\/thcinct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/sublinguals-are-taking-canadian-cannabis-by-storm.png,compress&amp;w=740 740w, https:\/\/thcinct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/sublinguals-are-taking-canadian-cannabis-by-storm.png,compress&amp;w=1100 1100w, https:\/\/thcinct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/sublinguals-are-taking-canadian-cannabis-by-storm.png,compress&amp;w=1480 1480w\"><figcaption>A little tab on the tongue will do you. (Courtesy of Headset)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The report notes sales of sublingual products reached their peak in July 2021, at around $425,000 nationwide, and then sales dipped in December to just under $350,000.<\/p>\n<p>Sublingual products resemble breath mint strips you would place under your tongue. Either sporting 5 mg or 10 mg of THC, these strips offer a quicker high onset of around 15 minutes, compared to around 90 minutes for edibles and beverages. <\/p>\n<p>As Leafly wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.ca\/news\/health\/do-cannabis-sublingual-strips-really-work-yes-heres-how\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">earlier<\/a>, sublingual absorption is so effective because it avoids the gastrointestinal system, where gastric acids and enzymes often convert delta-9 THC into the more psychoactive form of 11-hydroxy THC. <\/p>\n<p>Sublingual strips avoid that route by interacting directly with the bloodstream through that membrane underneath the tongue. It gives the consumer a purer delta-9 experience, which feels similar to smoking or vaping<\/p>\n<h2>Cannabis consumers want to try everything at least once<\/h2>\n<p>As part of the 2.0 class of cannabis products rolling out in Canada, they represent a more discreet format for Canadian cannabis consumers compared to flower and vapes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not surprised so many people went out to buy these types of strips,\u201d says Rachel Colic, chief strategist at Y Creative, a consultancy practice focused on brand strategy for the cannabis industry. \u201cThis is a long-awaited format, it\u2019s novel and new and people always want to try everything once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She notes that the format is consumer-friendly due to how sublingual strips resemble the easily recognizable product of breath-mint strips, such as Listerine\u2019s PocketPaks.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.ca\/news\/canada\/why-are-pre-rolls-so-popular-with-consumers\" class=\"wp-block-leafly-blocks-leafly-single-inline-block leafly-inline-related-story\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"border border-deep-green-alt border-l-0 border-r-0 my-xl p-md font-bold\">\n<p>Related<\/p>\n<p>Why are pre-rolls so popular with consumers?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>What is also turning heads favourably is how this market has surged in the past 18 months with only two key players in the market: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.ca\/search\/shop?q=Being%20QuickStrip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Being\u2019s THC Oral Strips<\/a>, produced by Thrive Cannabis based in Simcoe, Ontario, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leafly.ca\/search\/shop?q=Kin%20Slips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kin Slips<\/a> from Aleafia Health in Toronto.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Colic says the limited entrants into the market have done impressive heavy lifting in their category. \u201cI find it remarkable that these two SKUs have been carrying all that growth and filling in the gap left by the cannabis market.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-top-selling-format-for-medical-cannabis-patients\">Top selling format for medical cannabis patients<\/h2>\n<p>In speaking with Tricia Symmes, CEO of Aleafia Health, she says sublingual strips have become one of their top-selling products from their medical division.
