{"id":5170,"date":"2022-03-15T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-15T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/CAIiEM3G5yRd36xihPSxjKklTBkqGQgEKhAIACoHCAownuf9CjC99vUCMM-72gU"},"modified":"2022-03-15T07:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T07:00:00","slug":"feds-hamden-man-with-40-fake-ids-100-plus-pounds-of-marijuana-gets-24-years-in-prison-new-haven-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thcinct.com\/?p=5170","title":{"rendered":"Feds: Hamden man with 40 fake IDs, 100-plus pounds of marijuana gets 24 years in prison &#8211; New Haven Register"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thcinct.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/feds-hamden-man-with-40-fake-ids-100-plus-pounds-of-marijuana-gets-24-years-in-prison-new-haven-register.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>A man who at one point lived in Hamden was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison after law enforcement found more than 100 pounds of marijuana in his apartments as well as 40 fake identification cards with different names, according to federal officials.<\/p>\n<p>A jury in December 2018 found Andrew Davis, 41, guilty of one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana; one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 kilograms or more of marijuana; one count of possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime; and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, according to Leonard Boyle, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.<\/p>\n<div id=\"paywall\"> <!-- hearst\/article\/content\/zone.tpl --> <!-- hearst\/article\/content\/embed.tpl --> <\/p>\n<section class=\"article--content-embed inline-iframe\" data-eid=\"item-96894\"> <!-- amp-exco-63f164eb-2f17-48e3-96ac-02e20cc9621f --> <\/section>\n<p><!-- e hearst\/article\/content\/embed.tpl --> <!-- e hearst\/article\/content\/zone.tpl --> <\/p>\n<p>Davis, a citizen of Jamaica who last resided in Hamden, will face immigration proceedings after his prison term, Boyle\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- Missed: ad --> <!-- Missed: ad --> <\/p>\n<p>Davis was charged after investigators began looking into individuals who were moving large amounts of marijuana from the southwestern part of the country to Connecticut. During the investigation, law enforcement intercepted four packages from the U.S. Mail that each contained about 8 kilograms of marijuana, according to Boyle\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- Missed: ad --> <\/p>\n<p>In February 2017, law enforcement searched a Hamden apartment that Davis shared with his girlfriend, Shanice Goffe, as well as a storage unit in West Haven that was rented in Goffe\u2019s name and two Bridgeport apartments that Davis had under different aliases, Boyle\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p>In the Hamden apartment, police found more than a pound of marijuana, a loaded 9 mm handgun, boxes of .45-caliber ammunition, more than $62,000 in cash and several fake identifications, including a U.S. passport; in the storage unit, investigators discovered more than 33 kilograms of marijuana, as well as ammunition, firearm magazines, additional fake IDs and $350,000 in cash, according to Boyle\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- Missed: ad --> <\/p>\n<p>The two Bridgeport apartments, rented under the names \u201cCordel Freckleton\u201d and \u201cAndrew Carter,\u201d had more than 60 pounds of marijuana and three firearms, one of which was reported as having been stolen, Boyle\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- hearst\/article\/content\/relatedStories.tpl --> <\/p>\n<section class=\"relatedStories\" data-progressive=\"true\"><\/section>\n<p><!-- e hearst\/article\/content\/relatedStories.tpl --><\/p>\n<aside class=\"article--content-inline\">\n<aside class=\"zone\"><!-- src\/business\/widgets\/hearst\/collection\/widget.tpl --> <!-- e src\/business\/widgets\/hearst\/collection\/widget.tpl --> <!-- hearst\/home\/mostPopular.tpl --> <!--e hearst\/home\/mostPopular.tpl --><\/aside>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Investigators also seized three cars registered to Goffe, a 2014 BMW X6, a Honda Accord and a 2008 Honda Odyssey, that had been purchased with proceeds from trafficking marijuana, according to Boyle\u2019s office .<\/p>\n<p> <!-- Missed: ad --> <\/p>\n<p>Police discovered that Davis, while using the name \u201cSteve Williams,\u201d also was under investigation in 2008 for alleged marijuana trafficking. Police searched Davis\u2019 Bridgeport apartment in August 2008 and found fake identification, photos of Davis, three firearms, extended magazines, ammunition, drug packaging paraphernalia, marijuana packaged for sale and eight UPS receipts that had not arrived, according to Boyle\u2019s office .<\/p>\n<p>Police later seized the eight packages, revealing more than 75 pounds of marijuana. Meanwhile, \u201cWilliams\u201d was never found, Boyle\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p>Davis was charged in February 2017 and investigators seized more than 40 identification cards with false names. When U.S. Marshals asked his name, Davis replied \u201cLet\u2019s go with Steve Williams,\u201d Boyle\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p>Goffe, Davis\u2019 girlfriend, pleaded guilty in November 2017 to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 50 kilograms or more of marijuana and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
