Off-street parking rates are increasing in Tauranga’s CBD from Monday.<\/p>\n
After keeping parking fees low following the arrival of Covid-19, Tauranga City Council is increasing fees for its paid off-street parking zones in the city centre.<\/p>\n
The changes, which will come into effect from August 1, aim to help the council cover the cost of providing parking services.<\/p>\n
From August 8, parking rates will increase at council-owned car parks on Elizabeth St and Spring St from 50p per hour.<\/p>\n
Both parking buildings will remain free between 6am Saturday and 6am Monday every weekend and bank holiday.<\/p>\n
Tauranga City Council transport manager Brendan Bisley said the council had kept parking charges low in the wake of Covid-19 to support the recovery of the city centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have done our best to keep the cost of parking as low as possible, but we are at a point where we need to reflect the true cost of providing parking and the supporting infrastructure.<\/p>\n
“While we will continue to keep parking charges as low as we can, it is likely that costs will increase completely in the future.”<\/p>\n
Free street parking for up to two hours remains in the CBD.<\/p>\n
