We’re excited to announce that Jackson Barton is joining the Video Department as our morning breaking news editor, starting his days bright and early at 6am Eastern. In this crucial role, Jackson will coordinate with the Universal Desk on live transfers, source key video for developing stories, and edit breaking news packages both on and off-site.<\/p>\n
Jackson spent this summer interning in different parts of the Video Department, impressing us all during his breaking news rotation. He obtained and edited videos during the massive floods<\/a> in Yellowstone, produced a explainer<\/a> on coronavirus vaccines for young children and created a vertical video<\/a> in a possible prisoner exchange for Brittney Griner. He also contributed to our coverage of the Jan. 6 hearing, both as a live editor for the Politics team and as a videographer and producer on Capitol Hill during a prime-time show.<\/p>\n Most notably, Jackson worked at the center on Independence Day weekend, when a gunman fatally shot seven people during a parade in Highland Park, Illinois. He worked quickly to relay police updates and release witness videos, demonstrating his keen news judgment just three weeks on. to their practices.<\/p>\n Jackson graduated this spring from the University of Texas with a degree in journalism. He was a media intern at the Texas Tribune and interned at KXAN in Austin, covering the state Capitol, the 2021 grid failure and the pandemic’s impact on live music.<\/p>\n Originally from Lawrence, Kan., Jackson is officially moving to Washington, DC, to begin his new job on August 15th.
