see pages 7 and 8 of this week’s expanded COVID-19 data report<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\nConnecticut SNAP-eligible households to receive additional emergency food benefits on August 18<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nThe Connecticut Department of Social Services announced today that it will deliver more than $33.8 million in Supplemental Emergency Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to approximately 214,831 Connecticut households on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Monthly allocations of SNAP emergency benefits will go to all enrollees. homes, based on the continuation of a declared public health emergency related to COVID-19 in Connecticut.<\/span><\/p>\nAuthorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020, this federal allocation will provide a minimum of $95 in additional food assistance to all enrolled families and individuals, increasing Connecticut’s total emergency SNAP funding to more than $818.4 million dollars since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\nSpecifically:<\/span><\/p>\nAll 214,831 SNAP-eligible households statewide will receive emergency benefits on their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards by August 18, 2022.<\/span>
\n Households that already qualify for the maximum monthly SNAP benefit will receive an additional $95.<\/span>
\n All other households that do not normally qualify for the maximum monthly SNAP benefit due to income or other factors will receive additional benefits of at least $95, but an estimated average of $155.70 (depending on their situation of specific provision).<\/span>
\n With this additional allocation of $33.8 million from the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service, the emergency benefits add up to more than $818.4 million in additional SNAP assistance statewide during 28 months, with pro rata spending at supermarkets, grocers, farmers markets and other food retailers.<\/span>
\n The $95 increase results from President Joe Biden’s Jan. 22, 2021, executive order, which required the USDA to consider new guidelines that would allow states to increase SNAP emergency benefit allocations for all households, including those previously ineligible to receive it. This increase is expected to be continuous, subject to the continuation of state and federal public health emergencies.<\/span>
\n All households also received their normal SNAP benefits, based on the new Thrifty Food Plan amounts, on one of the first three days of the month as they normally do, according to the last name.<\/span>
\n If a household is awarded regular SNAP benefits, or has a change made to their case, on or after Monday, August 15, 2022, additional SNAP benefits will be added to the EBT card on a Friday, depending on the date of grant.<\/span><\/p>\nIn light of recent reports of skimming and phishing scams affecting EBT cardholders, the Department of Social Services is advising customers to change the PIN on their EBT cards immediately and before next week’s scheduled deposit.<\/span><\/p>\nFor additional information about SNAP, visit www.ct.gov\/snap<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\nProvide information to Connecticut residents<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nFor the most up-to-date information from the state of Connecticut regarding COVID-19, residents are encouraged to visit <\/span>ct.gov\/coronavirus<\/span><\/a>.
