At least 16 people have been killed in Turkey when a passenger bus crashed into emergency crews responding to an earlier traffic accident, officials said.<\/p>\n
Three firefighters, four emergency medical workers and two journalists from a Turkish news agency were among those killed on the road between Gaziantep and Nizip, both in the country’s southeastern Gaziantep province, the regional governor Davut Gul.<\/p>\n
Speaking from the scene of the accident, Mr Gul said: \u201cAround 10.45 this morning, a passenger bus crashed here.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile firefighters, medical teams and other colleagues were responding to the accident, another bus crashed 200 meters behind.<\/p>\n
“The second bus slid into that location and hit the first responders and the injured on the ground.”<\/p>\n
The rest of those who died were bus passengers, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said.<\/p>\n
Gul said 22 other people have been injured.<\/p>\n
Ilhas news agency reported that two of its drone operators died after stopping to help victims of the initial crash.<\/p>\n
The first bus had left the road and gone down an embankment.<\/p>\n
Television footage from the scene showed an ambulance badly damaged and the bus overturned on its side.<\/p>\n
Vice President Fuat Oktay said emergency workers and journalists had “lost their lives in the line of duty”.<\/p>\n
