Arriving officers found the center console of a boat floating off the coast of Stonington.<\/p>\n<p>There were two occupants in a boat that hit a broken wall, authorities said.  Investigators believe the crash happened Friday night.  Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, EnCon police said.<\/p>\n<p>The victims have not been identified.<\/p>\n<p>Sgt.  Dakota Flis of the Connecticut Environmental Police said boaters likely couldn&#8217;t see the murky waters. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are no lights in this area that would have lit it up very well and where they were Rockwall is very dark, there are rocks along the water, it&#8217;s a little hard to see at night so it would be difficult navigate,\u201d said Sgt.  flowers <\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"cms__embed-related-story\">RELATED: Block Island feud goes from island to mainland<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Libby Cooke, a mother in Stonington, said her son was fishing Saturday morning near where the boat was found. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I knew they were going to catch some tuna and I knew they were getting an early start and they woke up to those headlines where there had been a boating incident, so yeah of course my heart sank,&#8221; Cooke said.  . <\/p>\n<p>Cooke said she was able to find her son on shore, but the panic she felt served as a reminder of why water safety is so important.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subscribe to FOX61 Newsletters: <\/strong>Morning forecast, morning headlines, evening headlines<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not knowing and just knowing about boating safety is paramount,&#8221; Cooke said.  &#8220;It is important for safety for the navigation of the tools for the rules of the road.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Police are trying to get a message out after incidents like these, as numerous lives have been lost on the water this summer. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You really have to be careful out there, whether it&#8217;s weather or at night, it&#8217;s hard to see where there are congested waters out there, it&#8217;s a really dangerous thing with no roads like there are out here where there&#8217;s a dividing line to go through. it&#8217;s not well lit like it&#8217;s on the road, it&#8217;s dark,&#8221; said Sgt.  flowers<\/p>\n<p>Stonington Police, EnCon Police, the New London Coast Guard and New London County Marine Group assets, including area dive teams, responded to the scene.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"cms__embed-related-story\">RELATED: Boston Police Boat Arrives to Rescue Stranded Groom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The incident is now under investigation by EnCon police.
