Connecticut is the latest state to pass legislation authorizing adult recreational use of marijuana (about time!) and this should be cause to celebrate for our fellow Nutmeggers. In fact, according to the latest surveys, nearly two-thirds of Connecticut residents agree with this sentiment. The milestone vote by our lawmakers earlier this summer came amid a wave of recent Northeast state legalizations, including our neighbors in New Jersey and New York. LeafLink, a startup that operates an online wholesale cannabis market, has doubled its office footprint in the Financial District and is hiring rapidly in response to the growing legal market. The company has signed a lease that will add a second floor to its presence at 80 Broad St., reaching 26,000 square feet. LeafLink, founded in 2015, offers an online platform for about 7,000 cannabis retailers to buy products from suppliers. GUILFORD, CT — Monday, the Board of Selectmen received a letter from Guilford DAY, the coalition of volunteers whose mission is to help reduce teen drug and alcohol use. The missive was a request for the town to ban the retail sale of cannabis, slated to be available across the state come next spring. A national cannabis news site said the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe is planning to open a recreational marijuana dispensary in Connecticut. The tribe plans to open the dispensary near their Foxwoods casino next year, according to the website Leafly. Connecticut legalized marijuana earlier this summer, and retail sales are expected to begin in 2022. Under the new law, the state can enter into a compact with the Mashantuckets and the other federally-recognized tribe, the Mohegan, who operate the nearby Mohegan Sun casino. A California bill to legalize possession of a wide range of psychedelics such as psilocybin and ayahuasca will not advance further this year following a decision by the sponsor that more time is needed to build the case for the reform and solidify its chances of being enacted.
