CBD suppositories have been around for a minute, but they’ve never really taken off in terms of weed trends. I’m just guessing, but it’s probably the fact that suppositories don’t exactly sound sexy, even when they’re meant to make your sex life hotter. But some people claim that THC and CBD vaginal suppositories are much more erotic than they appear. The idea is that these suppositories, which can be inserted into the vagina or anus, depending on the specific product, can enhance sexual pleasure by minimizing paindecrease in anxiety, i increasing blood flow once the CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream. After hearing enough, I was curious enough to try some cannabis suppositories myself and ask the experts to weigh in on whether it’s really okay to put weed in your vagina.
Is it safe to put CBD suppositories in the vagina?
Almost every doctor I’ve talked to about vaginas has advised against putting unnecessary products in the vagina, and it turns out cannabis suppositories are no exception. “In terms of safety, the research doesn’t necessarily support that they’re okay to put in the vagina,” Denise Asafu-Adjei, MD, a urologist and researcher at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago, tells me. But, Asafu-Adjei adds, vaginal cannabis suppositories aren’t deadly and probably don’t have serious side effects for people who are generally healthy.
While Asafu-Adjei doesn’t recommend putting weed in the vagina, she does say that using cannabis products around the vagina can have some benefits. “The female genital tract has a dense amount of cannabinoid receptors, especially in the uterus,” he says, noting that lubricants containing CBD and THC are thought to enhance pleasure. Basically, lubricants are probably good and safe, but vaginal CBD suppositories are not recommended by the doctor, at least not by this doctor.
Can CBD vaginal suppositories lead to better sex?
Jordan Tishler, a Cambridge physician and Harvard Medical School professor who studies cannabis medicine, says cannabis lube and suppositories probably don’t work fast enough for most people to experience the benefits. “It takes 40 to 60 minutes to work, which isn’t usually that helpful for sex,” she says. “Who wants to ‘lubricate’ and sit there for that long before doing it?” But, he adds, there can be nice benefits to mixing weed and sex.
“There is good evidence that THC can be helpful [for increasing pleasure during sex], but that evidence is based on systemic (taken internally), not vaginal or anal use,” Tishler says, noting that there’s no evidence to suggest CBD works the same way. He recommends using a vaporizer of flowers for a sexy time with weed.” Low doses (5 to 15 mg) taken systemically provide increased libido, relaxation, and lubrication; more frequent and intense orgasms; and better overall satisfaction,” he says. This is true for people with vaginas and penises, he notes.
What does it feel like to use a vaginal CBD suppository?
Frankly, I wasn’t entirely surprised that doctors, even cannabis experts, weren’t ready to recommend the poorly researched and entirely anecdotal claims that vaginal suppositories are the best thing to happen to sex since consent. Still, I’m always up for a bit of sexual experimentation, so I tried them anyway.
I wasn’t worried about the whole “long waiting period to start” thing, because, the pregames. Really, are you all doing a little bit? Tsk tsk But I digress. I put weed back in my pleasure pocket.
First, I tried Foria’s CBD intimacy melts away, which the brand kindly sent me. I found them a little awkward to insert, though that’s probably because they had melted on my porch after delivery, and throwing them in the freezer to harden up again made the texture a little brittle, no a real design flaw. Pro tip: Don’t leave sex packages on a hot porch in August. Anyway, I stuffed the half broken pieces into the pus and drove to my boo’s place.
Although I didn’t notice a significant increase in sensitivity, my vagina seemed a little more sensitive to touch. The sex was hot, and I totally came, but only once, and it wasn’t anything particularly extraordinary. Still, I really liked the feel of the extra internal lube, and after a bit of diving, he told me it tasted like chocolate. (Foria suppositories contain cocoa butter.) All in all, I call it a win.
Next, I tried Hello Again CBD + THC Suppositories. They’re actually meant to help you sleep, but I thought, “Why not try them for a little sex snack before bed?” Again, I inserted the suppository about 30 minutes before foreplay. When I was tied spread eagle on bae’s bed, I definitely felt a heightened sensitivity. In fact, I almost felt like I was experiencing an inside-out penetration, which was fascinating, hot, and also almost too much at times.
Not only did I feel every stroke, but my orgasms were really hard, something I’ve been struggling with lately. I didn’t feel tall, exactly, but I did feel a little roomy in a fun way. I didn’t love the oil residue left on my toys, but it cleaned up quickly. I stayed awake after intercourse long enough for my partner to tell me that my vagina smelled a little weedy, and then I passed out into a beautiful, blissful sleep. Another win.
Do CBD suppositories work for other people?
Although I’m a bit picky about what goes into my vagina, I usually limit it to cleaning toys and very hot body parts, I will definitely be using these suppositories again. Yes, I will do it even though the doctors don’t recommend it. Because? Well, frankly, my vagina is pretty robust and I’m a pleasure seeker. In this hellscape of a world, why not lubricate and have fun?
Other people who have tried vaginal CBD suppositories for sex seem to agree with me. “It was definitely hot,” DeJanae Evins, a 30-year-old blogger in Los Angeles, tells me about her experience with Foria’s Intimacy Melts. “I really liked the warming feeling of the suppository melting inside me. It’s a very different experience than applying oil. I speak for my vagina when I say it felt more relaxed and sensitive to the touch.
Kelly Ashlen, a 30-year-old sex writer in California, had a similarly positive experience. “I often have trouble climaxing because I need to be pretty relaxed to come. Having a CBD suppository definitely helped with that,” says Ashlen. “The sex was very calm and romantic. My partner was also high after having a joint so the first time we experienced it was really fun for both of us as we are not heavy ‘rockers’ .I really noticed that it helped us feel a lot more connected while we were in the moment and that we could feel more of a bond with each other.
To be fair, almost everyone I talked to about weed suppositories thought they were cool, but that they were more likely to just smoke a spliff in the service of spontaneity. In other words, CBD vaginal suppositories are fun, but they’re also kind of gimmicky, and you really don’t need to invest if all you want is some stoned sex.
