If you told me a week ago that in the next seven days we would have three different articles with the phrase ‘breaking news’ in the header that all had to do with Paco Alcacer I would have been very, very confused, and yet here we are.
Today, Al Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates unilaterally canceled Paco’s loan to that club and has now reached an agreement with Villarreal to cancel the two years remaining on his contract. I’m sure in the coming days we will find the answers to the huge WHY questions, but for now we can only speculate. Did the striker decide he didn’t want to live so far from home, thus ending his deal in the United Arab Emirates? Did he realize that his only chance of getting a deal in European football was to take much less money? Was the canceled loan simply a way to move to the UAE permanently?
We’re not sure, but canceling his contract should get Villarreal’s move for Edison Cavani back on track. Given the depth in all positions this season, the club look set to make a strong push in multiple competitions, with the dream scenario of a top four finish and one of two cup trophies to come their way his way to the club.
Paco Alcacer’s move to Villarreal has obviously been very controversial. When he was healthy, he put up respectable numbers for a striker, but a combination of a poor health history, which didn’t quite fit with Unai Emery’s tactical philosophy, and he didn’t contribute enough when he didn’t have the ball, ultimately as at club, he supposed that. signing the album was extremely disappointing.
In the right system, Paco’s finishing ability makes him an extremely exciting player to watch. On the one hand, I hope he drops to a lower table in the Spanish team where he can play on the counter attack so we can see him at his best. Good luck, Paco.
UPDATE: We can’t even keep up with developments on this story. Paco apparently signed immediately for Sharjah after his contract at Villarreal was terminated:
