Lighting and furniture to hit Geelong’s CBD

KEY precincts in the Geelong CBD will be illuminated with neon signs and will have additional seating and outdoor dining infrastructure.

The improvements aim to improve outdoor areas and support Greater Geelong’s night-time economy as a result of a new partnership between the council and the state government.

“We are providing creative lighting and additional seating to bring more color to Central Geelong and support new and existing businesses,” Geelong Mayor Peter Murrihy said.

The Love Central Geelong signs have already been installed on Little Malop Street to add extra atmosphere to Geelong’s popular dining and entertainment precinct and were visited by Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation Melissa Horne, the last week.

The lights were produced by Geelong Custom Neon and installed by Lifestyle Electrical.

“It’s wonderful to see the revitalization of downtown Geelong continuing while creating jobs for local traders,” Cr Murrihy said.

Investments to boost the Geelong Waterfront can be found in several places along the popular strip.

New outdoor furniture has been installed to help locals and visitors make the most of areas including Western Beach, Eastern Beach, Fisherman’s Basin Marina, Fairnie Park and Steampacket Quay.

The project is one of several infrastructure investments taking place in Greater Geelong with support from the Victorian Government’s COVID Outdoor Activation Fund.
