A farmer in the northern Indian state of Punjab is moving his house 500 feet (152.4 m) away from its original site because it is in the path of a highway.
The expressway connects the national capital Delhi with the Jammu and Kashmir region at a distance of 670 km (420 miles). Sukhwinder Singh spent around 15 million rupees ($188,000; £159,000) to build it in 2019.
“I was offered compensation, but I didn’t want to build another house,” says Singh.
A team of 20 men has been assigned to move it now.
It is rare for an entire house in India to move intact. In 2017, a house in the southern Indian state of Kerala was moved piece by piece near the capital Delhi 2414 km (1500 miles) away to preserve the structure.
