Chicago-based cannabis multistate operator Verano Holdings announced its expansion into Connecticut with multiple acquisitions, including one completed deal and two pending purchases. One of the pending deals, the acquisition of a cultivation business, is valued at more than $130 million and will give Verano a vertically integrated presence in the state. Denver was the first city in the U.S. to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms—and two and half years after the reform was approved by voters, a panel established under the initiative working to build upon that success. The City Council’s Finance and Governance Committee delved into the issue at a hearing on Tuesday, with members of the Denver Psilocybin Mushroom Policy Review Panel making a presentation on recommendations it’s been developing. A Wood County man has been indicted for growing marijuana and a Connecticut man has been accused of pulling a knife on patrons at a Levis Commons restaurant. A Wood County grand jury indicted Brett L. Moon, 49, Haskins, on Nov. 3 for illegal manufacture of drugs or cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana, both third-degree felonies. According to court documents, on or about Sept. 1, 2020, Moon knowingly cultivated marijuana in an amount more than 5,000 grams and was also found in possession of that amount. A bipartisan coalition of two dozen governors is urging congressional leaders to finally enact marijuana banking reform through large-scale defense legislation. In a letter sent to top lawmakers in the House and Senate on Tuesday, the state officials said the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act should be attached to the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
