Emergency works in Brisbane’s CBD have caused 45-minute bus delays and congestion for drivers across the city, forcing some morning commuters to walk to work.
All lanes are blocked from all directions on Adelaide Street between George Street and North Quay on Tuesday morning, with the Queensland Traffic website urging people to seek an alternative route.

A Translink spokesman said the works were causing bus delays.
“It looks like the works are causing delays as far as Brisbane and the West End,” he said.
Commuters in the West End were forced to walk, not knowing if a bus would arrive in time for them to get to work.
Just before 9.30am, Traffic Network Australia spokesman Chris Hull said traffic was still heavy.
“These works have done a lot to the roads this morning,” he said.
“Traffic is backed up in Toowong to Coronation Drive, Albion from the inner city ring road, Milton Road to Auchenflower and Pacific Freeway traffic is backed up to Upper Mt Gravatt.
“The Victoria Bridge is also stuck. I have been told that people on some buses have been stuck on the bridge for 20 minutes and are going nowhere.
“Work is expected to continue throughout the day, but we expect traffic to ease over the next hour as we move through rush hour.”
