The Central East Maui Little League All-Stars won their second straight elimination game via the 10-run mercy rule to stay alive in the 50/70 Intermediate World Series (12-13) at Livermore, Calif., Wednesday.
Maui, which beat Toms River (NJ) East 11-1 in six innings on Wednesday, is now 3-1 in the double-elimination event and is one win out of the American championship game that is scheduled for Saturday . The World Cup match is on Sunday.
Riley Phillips led Maui’s 13-hit display with a 3-for-4 day at the plate that included a double, three runs and two RBI. Jayden Perry-Waikiki hit a home run for Maui and went 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBI.
Malu Rosaga was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI, and George Dafun Jr. went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
West Region champion Maui plays Central Region champion Highlander Youth Recreation Little League of Georgetown, Ind. today at 3pm HST in another elimination game.
