Police were alerted to the dangerous driver after receiving a report of a vehicle speeding on the Waimate Freeway just after 10am on Sunday, a police spokesman said.
“The vehicle was located a short time later and the driver failed to stop for police in south St Andrews,” they said.

The vehicle was then found abandoned in Station St, after the driver crashed into a building, at around 10.20am.
The driver was arrested nearby about 30 minutes later, the spokesman said.
No one was injured in the incident, they said.
