Sen. Richard Blumenthal praised a Bridgeport church Saturday for its efforts to help solve Connecticut’s housing crisis.

He says that the program created by Reverend Dr. Herron K. Gaston of Summerfield United Methodist Church is helping ease the financial burden on taxpayers by offsetting the cost of funding rental assistance programs.

“What is critical to the use of federal funding is this kind of local leadership by Reverend Gaston,” he said. “Making funding available to people who really need it.”

Gaston told News 12 it offers families in need up to three months of rental assistance. He also says the program also helps people with their utility bills.
