Connecticut is the best state in the country to go to community college to get some knowledge, according to a new report.
Wallethub released one list on Tuesday which ranked the Nutmeg State No. 1 for having the best community college systems in the nation.
Maryland, New Mexico, Washington and Hawaii rounded out the top five on the list. Montana, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Mississippi and Ohio fell to the bottom of the list.
To make this determination, Wallethub used one of its previous reports that it analyzed the best and worst community colleges in the country based on factors such as cost and funding, educational outcomes and career outcomes.
From this list of 677 institutions, 12 Connecticut schools ranked in the top 25%:
No. 10: Naugatuck Valley Community College
No. 11: Northwestern Connecticut Community College
No. 12: Manchester Community College
No. 15: Capital Community College
No. 31: Ashnuntuck Community College
No. 54: Gateway Community College
No. 61: Three Rivers Community College
No. 112: Housatonic Community College
No. 139: Norwalk Community College
No. 144: Quinebaug Valley Community College
No. 157: Middlesex Community College
No. 167: Tunxis Community College
Although the state’s community colleges are ranked first, officials at Connecticut’s state college and university systems have begun planning cost-cutting measures due to revenue losses from the decline of enrollment, CTMirror reported in July. These measures have included cutting programs and not filling positions after retirements.
“We need to be more efficient and effective in how we allocate resources that are commensurate with outcomes, impact and ultimately student success,” CSCU spokesperson Leigh Appleby said in an email electronic, according to CTMirror. “We’re just not where we want to be right now, and major change is needed if we hope to not only survive, but ultimately thrive.”
