Traffic deaths in New Jersey continue to rise even after a 14-year record high in 2021, according to the US Department of Transportation.
The DOT released statistics showing that traffic deaths have increased by 13.7%.
Drivers say they wish people would slow down and not drive so wildly.
“People drive like maniacs in New Jersey,” says Brittany Dinelle. “I’ve lived here all my life. I don’t know why people are in such a hurry.”
Keith Fletcher says it would be great if people were less aggressive on the road.
“Are people unhappy in their lives and that makes them act out on the roads?” says Fletcher. “I feel like people aren’t interacting directly with other people, that gives them the ability to act more aggressively.”
The DOT also cited failure to wear seat belts and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs as contributing to the increase in fatalities.
