COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio medical marijuana regulators want to double the number of dispensary licenses in the state to satisfy patient demand, which has been much higher than anticipated since the program became operational. Currently, there are 58 dispensaries throughout Ohio. (Credit: Paul Squire) A Chicago-based cannabis company has announced plans to acquire Columbia Care, which has a medical marijuana and recreational cultivation presence in Riverhead, in an all-stock merger valued at $2 billion. MIDDLETOWN — Adela Santiago, who suffered a permanent spinal injury two years ago, says she often has to trek more than 2 miles in her wheelchair to her job as a tutor and interventionist at Middletown High School. Two winters ago, Santiago said she slipped on ice while going down the stairs at home. As a result of the accident, she said her spinal cord and nerves were permanently damaged, causing acute scoliosis.
