Connecticut won’t suppress crime without restoring deterrence – Journal Inquirer

Connecticut lately has generated more than its share of silly paradoxes. Having given up on the futility of criminalizing marijuana, state government is rushing into the marijuana retailing business with overregulation and overtaxation. This will make the drug even more available to minors while ensuring the black market’s continued profitability. Meanwhile the nanny-staters are campaigning to outlaw flavored vaping products because of the damage they do to the lungs of young people. Of course as with marijuana, what is forbidden may become only more enticing to the young. The Connecticut Law Tribune has launched a campaign to repeal the First…

How to Set Up a Cannabis Home Grow

Cannabis cultivation can be defined as an art, a science or as an alchemic combination of the two. Over the course of a flowering cycle, it’s not uncommon for cannabis farmers to develop profound attachments to their crops, which, in turn, can lead to healthier, happier plants. Today, the bond between flower and grower is nonetheless regarded as a time-honored tradition. Fortunately, if you live in an area where personal cannabis cultivation is permitted, you too can develop this kind of bond with your crop. In this article, we’ll cover the basics on how to set up a cannabis home grow…

BOWL PAC – influential group looking to break down the final borders in legalizing cannabis – Business – Inter Press Service

Last week, South Carolina’s state senate passed a bill that will legalize medical cannabis. In Connecticut, they are worrying that demand will outstrip supply when recreational weed becomes officially available for purchase later this year. There’s no doubt about it, the legalization steamroller is running at full speed.   In fact, many would argue that the US is at something of a tipping point. Around three-quarters of US states have now legalized medical weed, and while fewer have gone all the way legalizing it for recreational use, that number is also rising. Seeing New York fully legalize last year seemed to…

Jonathan L. Wharton (opinion): What to look out for this legislative session – Thehour.com

The Connecticut General Assembly has begun another term. Before highlighting some of the proposals to consider this year, I must cover the particulars of our state legislature. First off, the General Assembly meets from the beginning of the calendar year until late spring. They can still hold special legislative sessions beyond springtime months, but we technically have a hybrid legislature, since it’s not a full-time legislative body. There have been proposals to change that, but full-time legislatures are often for larger states that require lawmakers to stay over in their state capitals. (For example, Albany and Boston.) In my former…

If Bars And Restaurants Can Sell Alcohol, They Should Also Be Allowed To Serve Marijuana (Op-Ed) – Marijuana Moment

A Rhode Island Senate committee on Tuesday held the first hearing on a much-anticipated bill to legalize marijuana in the state. But while activists are eager to end cannabis criminalization, the measure faced pushback over a key provision concerning the proposed process for expunging prior convictions. The bill from Sen. Joshua Miller (D), which was unveiled earlier this month, was heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee. A companion House version from Rep. Scott Slater (D) has not yet been scheduled for a committee hearing. This development also comes two months after Gov. Dan McKee (D) included a proposal to end cannabis…
