CHAMPS Returns to Las Vegas for 23rd Annual Show

Walking the aisles of the 23rd annual CHAMPS trade show in Las Vegas from Feb. 2-5, the consensus was clear among exhibitors and buyers: It was the busiest CHAMPS event yet, and it was a hit. Founded in 1999, the expo has certainly grown and evolved over the years, along with the larger public positive perception of cannabis and increasing wave towards legalization.  “We’ve been growing everywhere,” said Jeff Hirschfeld, founder and owner of CHAMPS trade shows, which take place annually in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Denver, Orlando and Chicago. “Besides the COVID year [2020], we’ve never had a down…

Is Cannabis Legalization Killing Weed Events?

There was plenty of weed at the recent “Harvest Ball,” the first edition of the newly rechristened mid-December cannabis event which was focused on celebrating northern California’s sungrown harvest, formerly known as the Emerald Cup. (The official “Emerald Cup” happens in May in Los Angeles at Green Street Festival.) This non-Emerald Cup was just the “road to the Cup,” if you follow. The only trouble was getting your hands on any weed without burning an hour waiting in line or running afoul of the law. The first big cannabis event to happen in California in the COVID-19 era that’s not…

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced at a press conference on Friday that he is aiming to formally file his much-anticipated bill to federally legalize marijuana in April. Too few recreational cannabis licenses available in CT, critics say – The Advocate

Connecticut opened its first application round for certain recreational cannabis licenses Thursday, but several pro-legalization groups say the process that has been created could “significantly hamper” the state’s goal of creating an equitable market. Their concern is that only 56 licenses, ranging from retailers to cultivators, will be issued to start, and that existing medical marijuana operators in the state are being given an unfair advantage since they can enter into an unlimited number of equity joint ventures. The joint ventures are cannabis businesses that must be at least 50 percent owned or controlled by an individual, or individuals, who…
