A key congressional committee last week approved a bill that would authorize federal research into the therapeutic applications of cannabis for military veterans. Under the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) would be required to conduct clinical trials into the potential of cannabis as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain among the nation’s veterans. Chicago-based multistate cannabis company Verano Holdings Corp. has acquired two dispensaries and a cultivation facility in Connecticut. Verano Holdings bought Waterbury medical dispensary Caring Nature LLC, Meriden medical dispensary Willow Brook Wellness LLC and Connecticut Pharmaceutical Solutions, which owns an operating cultivation and production facility in Rocky Hill. The three acquisitions expand Verano’s East Coast presence, the company said.
