Chicago-based company Green Thumb Industries is ready to invest $150 million to build a facility to grow cannabis products on the grounds of a former prison in Warwick. In a case of first impression, the Superior Court of Pennsylvania has determined that employees can sue their employers for claims under the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Act (MMA). Palmiter v. Commonwealth Health Sys., Inc., No. 398 MDA 2020, 2021 PA Super. 155 (Pa. Super. Ct. Aug. 5, 2021). This is the first binding opinion in Pennsylvania establishing an MMA private right of action. August 12, 2021 Bethany Farm, half of which is in Woodbridge, opened to the public this spring. The garden center and nursery is in the former location of Ace Begonias. For former Ace customers, Bethany Farm & Nursery still sells begonias. The property looks a little different since the new owners have done lots of masonry work and have installed additional greenhouses, including one dedicated to growing hemp and another to growing organic vegetables.
