No pot referendum in Southington this year, organizer says – Meriden Record-Journal

SOUTHINGTON — Residents won’t be voting on whether to allow local marijuana sales in November but may have a chance next year. Stacey Dolan, leader of the effort to collect the necessary signatures to put the question on the ballot, said she won’t have enough names by the Aug. 25 deadline. “We will roll over the signatures and aim for the 2022 election instead,” Dolan said Wednesday. This summer, the state legislature legalized recreational marijuana and allowed towns to regulate or prohibit sales. Three people have been arrested for allegedly selling “extremely large amounts,” of marijuana, vape pens, and untaxed cigarettes at an area smoke shop. The bust took place on Monday, Aug. 16, in Fairfield County at the Smokers Box smoke shop at 1668 Park Ave., in Bridgeport. The bust comes on the heels of an investigation during which undercover police officers purchased marijuana from the business which does not possess a dispensary permit or license to sell recreational marijuana,  said Bridgeport PD Captain Kevin Gilleran said.
